What is Long-Term Care?

Long-term care includes support for basic daily living for people who have a chronic illness or disability. Sometimes called personal assistance, it may include help with everyday activities like dressing, bathing, and using the bathroom. It may also include the kind of health-related care that most people do themselves, like using eye drops.

Long-term care can be provided at home, in the community, in assisted living, or in a nursing home. It’s important to start planning for long-term care now to maintain your independence and to make sure you get the care you may need in the future.

Note: Medicare and most health insurance plans do not pay for long-term care.

Medicare pays only for time-limited, medically necessary skilled nursing facility care or home health care if you meet certain conditions.

What is Disability Insurance?

Most people insure their material possessions, like their homes and cars. But many of these same people don’t insure what is probably their most valuable asset – their ability to work and earn income. If you become sick or are injured and can’t work, will you be able to pay your bills and maintain your standard of living?

If you depend on your income to pay the bills, you need to consider buying disability income insurance. Disability income insurance can help you pay your bills by replacing a portion of your income. It can help you maintain your current lifestyle and help protect you and your family from going into serious debt.

Your chances of being disabled at some time during your working career are probably higher than you think. According to the Social Security Administration, studies show that a 20-year-old worker has a 3 in 10 chance of becoming disabled before reaching retirement age. Of course, the chances that any one individual will be disabled before retirement depends on many factors, including age, general health, and occupation.

The cost of a disability policy depends on your age, occupation, and various other health factors. Call us today to see how we can help find the right disability policy for you.
